The Sd.Kfz.253, based on the Sd.Kfz.250 light halftrack family, was used by Germany as an observation vehicle for artillery forward observers. This Beobachtungswagen observation vehicle was fully enclosed rather than having the open-topped compartment found on the standard halftrack. A total of 285 Sd.Kfz.253s were manufactured by Demag and Wegman from 1940-41. Interestingly, a wartime photo exists of a very rare conversion performed on an Sd.Kfz.253, where a Panzer I turret was fitted onto the halftrack hull. Logically, the kit makes use of parts from Dragons latest new-generation Sd.Kfz.250 items. These are the highest-quality model Sd.Kfz.250s available on the market. Likewise, the turret emanates from Dragons highly acclaimed Panzer I family. The vehicle also features a set of Magic Tracks to ease assembly for the modeler. This Sd.Kfz.253/Panzer I turret combo was extremely rare, but now modelers can add their very own miniature version to their model collections.
