The US Marine Corps (USMC) has been using the Amphibious Assault Vehicle 7 (AAV7) since 1972, and even today it continues to be the primary means of transporting marines ashore in beach landings. USMC vehicles have participated in combat in Beirut, Grenada, Panama, the Gulf War, Somalia, Haiti, Kosovo and Iraq, for example. The AAV7, weighing in at 29.1 tons and measuring 7.94m long, is used by a great many other nations too.
