The Battle of Austerlitz represents Napoleons greatest success and is considered a masterpiece of military strategy. One of the most famous battles in history, it was fought on December 2, 1805, near the town of Austerlitz, and is also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors because it saw the confrontation between Napoleons Grande Arme and the allied forces of Tsar Alexander I of Russia and Emperor Francis II of Austria. The battle has taken on a legendary status due to the masterful execution of the Grande Armes battle plan, at the height of its effectiveness. Key moments included the defence of the villages of Tellnitz and Sokolnitzwhere intense fighting took place around the granary and the castleand the assault on the Pratzen Heights.
